Reducing energy consumption
Albertslund is working to renovate over 6,000 homes to improve energy efficiency
In a public-private partnership Albertslund aims to modernize Albertslund's aging prefabricated housing stock of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s in order to improve energy efficiency and reduce impacts on the climate.
This huge refurbishment was kick-started by the renovation of 9 houses in the southern part of Albertslund - also named as The Albertslund Concept. This project resulted in a reduction of energy consumption by 50-80 percent in these homes.
Renovation 6000 homes
Over the next 10 years, the municipality plans to renovate and retrofit over 6,000 homes in Albertslund.
Because this housing was originally prefabricated, solutions to renovation are prefabricated, thus making them cost-effective. Renovations include adding insulation, new windows, and solar collectors for water.
